The chance to earn a paycheck provides hope and the prospects for reentry success to newly released federal offenders. As an employer, you are invited to help these men and women become productive taxpaying citizens.

Consider these incentives and benefits for employers to hire former offenders:

  • Service to the public: Help former offenders in their transition to become contributing members of society. The job opportunities you provide will offer them a chance to share in the American dream.
  • Skilled employees: Many former offenders have acquired "real world" jobs training and work experience while in prison, having participated in UNICOR industrial work programs. Some have gained highly valued technical expertise and are uniquely prepared to assume hard-to-fill positions. And many are willing to start in minimum wage jobs that hold promise for a meaningful future.
  • Bonding Programs: No cost bond insurance is available through the Department of Labor's Federal Bonding Program to employers who hire former offenders.
  • Work Opportunity Tax Credit: This federal tax credit is offered in many states to employers who hire ex-offenders.

Please be sure to contact your local Employment Services office for the latest information about the business incentives available.

Second Chances Video

Nothing better exemplifies the merits of hiring former offenders than our "Second Chances Video". It is the story of a young man's journey from federal prisoner to lead engineer and Employee of the Year for an internationally recognized manufacturer. Watch the Second Chances video.
